Back To School Week Next Week

Back To School Week Next Week
Posted on 09/25/2020
Dear Parents/Guardians:

This is a reminder that Back-To-School Week begins Tuesday, September 29th and continues until October 4, 2020. Instead of the traditional in-person Back-To-School Night, this year we will be having Virtual Back to School Week next week beginning September 29th.

There will be a web page for families to visit which will have information and several videos for all families. The web page will be active from September 29 to October 4. The web page will replace these aspects of a traditional BTSN:

My remarks in the Auditorium

Remarks in the Auditorium from LSPO and other folks

Student-led tours

Groups with tables in the cafe

The most important part of Back to School Week, will be videos from teachers in a link that will be sent to you. Your students teacher’s video will include:

An introduction of themselves

Information on the curriculum of that particular class

How they will be structuring the class in the hybrid model, including student expectations for attendance

How students can arrange time with teacher for extra help

How students can access the status of their academic progress in the class

What parents can expect regarding communication with the teacher

School Council Election also traditionally takes place during Back to School Night. School Councils were created by the 1993 MA Education Reform Law and are charged with the duties of: approving changes to the discipline code; reviewing the budget; discussing school goals; evaluating the needs of the school; and collaborating on an annual school improvement plan, which they must submit to the School Committee for approval.

The School Council is composed of parents (7), teachers (7), students (7), and one community representative. School Council meets monthly, with occasional subcommittee meetings, and involves a 1-3 hour time commitment each month. During the 2020-21 school year, meetings will be held on Google Meet. The meeting time will be either after school on the first Tuesday of the month, or before school on the first Thursday of the month, depending on participant availability.

Parents/guardians are elected for a two-year term. This year’s election for School Council we will be filling three seats.

If you would like to join the School Council, please email Francy Zingale at by noon Wednesday, October 7th. Please include a short statement introducing yourself and your reasons for wanting to join the Council. If we have more candidates than slots, we will hold an election, and your statement will appear on the ballot.

We will miss seeing parents and guardians in person this year during Back to School Night but wish to extend you all a warm welcome to the coming school year.
