Dear LS Students and Families,

I hope this note finds you well, rested and excited about starting school next week! We are certainly looking forward to seeing you!

I am writing to share a compilation of COVID mitigation strategies we will be using as we start school next week. It contains information about mask wearing, the need and how to self monitor for symptoms, the importance of and how to access vaccination, the benefit and accessibility of testing, and how close contact tracing will work.Thank you to LS school nurse Robin Shaikh who helped me create and review the document. Here is the link:

Discussions about mandated staff vaccination are taking place between the Teachers Association and the School Committee. I expect to be able to provide an update on the status next week.

Attached is the DESE Mask Guidance and FAQ released August 24, 2021. The mask requirement for all schools indoors across all grade levels is effective August 24.

Our application for state testing has been approved by DESE. We will be offering weekly pool testing through DESE. Information about how to participate in pool testing is forthcoming. We will not be implementing the Stay and Test option. Here is more information about the statewide COVID-19 testing program. Attached please find DESE and DPH's testing and quarantine guidance for districts and schools for the fall.

Per the MIAA guidance released August 25, 2021 for fall sports, masks shall be required for any activity for student-athletes and coaches that are indoors. Masks are not required and remain optional for any activity outdoors.

Also attached is the MA Music Educators Association (MMEA) guidelines for performing arts. We will be following the MMEA guidance for mask wearing.

Enjoy your weekend and we will see all of our students shortly!
