Emergency Relief: [just for Quarter 1 for now]

For Haiti and Afghanistan-- Recent events have set the world reeling with concern for both countries, both of whom are undergoing unimaginable hardships.

If you would like to do something to help, here are some options:

All involve doing work for money and then donating money to these causes.

Work might include:

Holding a bake sale, doing gardening for someone, helping move furniture, babysitting, or the like. You can also use money you’ve made from a regular job. [If you are not sure it would count, you can just email us!]

The total number of hours you can gain doing this is 10 hours.

You need to have proof of the work being completed (client signs the form or a pay stub) and then you need to show us proof of sending the money (a screenshot of a site you donated to or of a check you sent with the envelope).

Here is a list of acceptable places to donate (you cannot just send a check to a relative, for example). If you hear of another organization, you are welcome to run it by us or consult websites like Charity Navigator and GiveWell to determine charities' legitimacy and avoid scams.!

For Haiti:

PBS NewsHour recommends these organizations: UNICEF, Project HOPE, Hope for Haiti, Save the Children, World Vision, Catholic Relief Services, The Greater Miami Jewish Federation's relief fund and Operation Helping Hands from The United Way and the Miami Herald/El Nuevo Herald.

These are some of the other organizations suggested by GiveWell: Direct Relief, Haitian Health Foundation, International Relief Teams, Medical Teams International, Project HOPE, Team Rubicon and Americares.

For Afghanistan:

Consider donating to Women for Afghan Women, which says it is the largest women's group in Afghanistan; the International Refugee Assistance Project; and the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee, which works to protect journalists on the ground.

Women for Afghan Women: This non-profit organization has been fighting for the rights of Afghan women for 20 years. Today, they are trying to help the women's rights activists they work with throughout the country who are in extreme danger from the Taliban. To support their critical work, you can make a donation at https://amgrl.co/3AJgRwL

CARE: One of the world's largest humanitarian aid organizations, CARE has a long history of helping people in Afghanistan. In recent weeks, there has been a huge increase in the demand for emergency aid as many families have fled the Taliban. You can support their work in Afghanistan with a donation at https://amgrl.co/3iOeSBp
